Cape Town- project
Janwillem Retera performed his birdhouse workshop in an ECD (Early child development centre) right next to a black disadvantaged area (township) in Houtbay, South Africa. He volunteered during the afternoons in helping young children with their homework.
After that -before their hot meal was given- they did the woodwork practice together with Janwillem. This was an extraordinary experience!
He found a Dutch accounting company willing to sponsor this specific workshop: hours of labour, the tools and materials.
Workshops given:
1x birdhouse hammering-building & colouring with crayons and colored pencils
1x creative bird drawing & painting and making a collage
1x “Janwillems’ bird game” for 6 and 7 years old : listening to bird sounds and searching for their parents blindfolded.
In sensing and observing the educational environment and needs, Janwillem’s intuition exactly tells him how to proceed and in what practical way. Playful, loving and innocent but always searching for simple teachings in the moment, challenging the children’s consciousness and creativity.
Options:
- For NGOs, welfare and other educational organizations working with disadvantaged children or youth.
- For Sponsors: (educational) organizations, businesses or private persons who want to sponsor our creative wood workshops.
